All I have to say is, order the steak and ale pie, with a pint of whatever you like, and thank me later. SO good. Just wish this dish wasn't so filling. I can do about half and that's it. Delicious.
Only quirk here is you pick a table, and then have to go up to the bar to order food and drink. -

Great fish and chips, got a lot of fish but the price was a little expensive 12.5 pounds. The waiter was very accommodating he let all 3 of us pay different amounts on different cards. They also had a large selection of beers. It was also in a very convenient location for tourists. Next to the the national gallery and Buckingham palace.

Okay. That is about what I would say. Meat pies are good. I had the lamb shank pie which was better than the Steak and Ale pie which my wife had and which came with way too much gravy. A bit confusing to order at the bar. The bar maid looked at me like I had brain damage when I told her I did not see my table number and then came and pointed it out to me on the wooden condiment holder.

Gastro pub...? I'd say it's more of a British boozer. No surprises on the beer taps- you've got Amstel, Bud, and I think there was Fosters and Stella too. Wine list definitely features at least one no frills pinot grigio at a slightly higher Chelsea price for what you get. But, all in all, not too bad. The bottled beers in the fridge are probably my alco-highlight with a Little Creatures Pale in amongst the Brew Dog and other Brit crafties.
The atmosphere is really cosy and comfortable. Not the prettiest looking pub but it has all you need for a good old session on the frothies. It's actually a bit refreshing being able to step into something like this after the high street glitz.
I didn't eat the food but if you're after gastro I would probably look somewhere else. If you are after a stomach filler and aren't too fussy/tainted by gourmet hamburger joints, then here's your place. If you're on a low-fat, carb free, paleo or vegan diet maybe eat before at home. -

Typical British pub. Stopped here for a quick bite and a few beers after shopping. Great selection if beers. For dinner we tried the typical fish & chips- the portion was HUGE. Came with fries an a few different sides. Next time I will definitely get one and share because I couldn't finish the entire meal. Overall, good tasting fish and chips. Beer was good too. This place was so crowded that we barely could stand or find a seat- finally a table got opened up so we ran to grab it. Bar service a bit slower. You order your food and beer at the bar register, grab your drinks but they bring your food to you. Good concept of paying at the bar because then you don't need to be waited on or wait for your bill, etc.
